Character separation
Have the character be completely separated from the world save, so you can take any char into any world/server. Whenever I want to play solo on my castle and then join a friend who already played on their own too, there should be no reason for me to create a completely new char.
Do it like Terraria did it, where you join one world with any char you pick. Please.

WatergunHow and what terraria did, I am not sure. But one thing for sure, character creation settings should be saveable: create and customize once and save. On new server, just loadout and start playing new game.

A copy of the player's character should be auto-saved locally whether playing online or single-player.
A server admin should have the *option* of importing other characters, or allowing players to choose other characters rather than creating a new one.
Servers that want to prevent any form of cheating can simply disallow (by default) using outside characters, but for single-player or coop games, it should be possible to move characters between worlds, or allow the player to keep progress from a server they were on, if the server goes offline.
Valheim doesn't implement the "exclusive-to-this-server" character system and I think they should have the option, but otherwise the way they handle characters and worlds is a good example of how to do it. -

FluxElectroHaving the option to choose from different characters on a server will be good for roleplay servers too. I love that the game has a fixed map and a clan feature but with the option to change characters, it allows us to make more buildings for roleplay storytelling.
