The ability to create guard posts within your castle that you can assign your thralls too. If a thrall is assigned to a guard post they cannot be sent on missions. Only one thrall can be assigned per guard post. Guard posts with have a few tile buffer around themselves that another guard post could not be created.
Higher tier guard posts could boost the strength or provide healing effects to the thralls that are working that guard post.

GreatApeApexEither higher tiers offer greater benefits or side grade defense options that make the posts hard targets specializing in either healing/buffing/debuffing.
