Second Floor or Basement
Please add option to build on second floor or basement(could be a bonus to prison/crypt rooms). Would increase space for small castles on crowded servers.

KomurotoSomething like should probably be applied if they make Level 5 or level 6 castle hearts.

The Slimy One100% agree we need more floors in either direction.

dand3eeeWhile a neat idea, they already have stated they don't currently have plans for this. Update #13 has specifically addressed this stating, "It will be limited to one floor as the top-down perspective comes with challenges and limitations in building multiple floors."

ShadyiaI agree! If at all possible, please allow castles to be BIGGER. We need more space! A dungeon would be perfect for tombs and prisons.

fiercekittenzSeconded for sure! I have a PVE server with 33 active players and it's getting really crowded. I'm almost hesitant to ask friends to join.

HawkZombieBasements would be amazing, but not really in the theme for the game, I think (I still want them lol). Multiple floors, however...

JonanzoI am so agree with this one!

BroysI agree, on Official servers, space is hard to find to build a large castle. The flooring for the buffs take up a lot of room to be able to fit everything.

Nobusuma100% agree. This can lead to a lot of rich new feature like Castle defense from walls and combat at differents hights
-

ShaunyI don't really understand the limitations? Surely you can just not render the floors you're not on?
-

WatergunInstead of building upwards, I would like to suggest building downwards since vampires favor darkness. Underground has natural darkness unlike upwards towards the sun.

AryvandaarBasements would be cooler for the theme. Make it so you can use portals to traverse between floors too.

KaiI would love to have both basements and upper floors. This gives more immersion to our castles and more room for creativity. Hope you add this feature.
Imagine the spiraling stairs up to the highest peak of your castle where you stare down those lowly humans and transform into a bat in search for the next clueless victim, or treading down the stairs towards the darkest and deepest bowels of your castle where you keep your most horrid secrets. -

Serena LamburgDefinitely needed, mostly focused to level 5/6/7 Castles that are roofed properly, with the capability of building a bridge connecitong between roofs, also building downwards would be a great idea, as a way to hide from sunlight or farm other light sensitive materials

ShaunI really like this idea, even if it's only implemented for PvE. If you're using the Camera Mod then you know how good it is in 3rd or 1st person view. Especially 1st person walking through your castle able to fully look up and around at your work of art. Then if we had the ability to traverse stairs between floors, go through secret passageways between floors also. Hop in an elevator, teleport between floors. I would still want to build up multiple floors so as a bat you could fly (to admire your great castle) to the top of your castle and stand on the ledge like batman and overlook the area under the night sky. Then jump off to the ground below. Common Devs please implement this?

Mirosh70What is a castle without inner stairs? It would be perfect. For a person like me who likes to create super realistic castles, having second floors, stairs leading to them and so on is like a dream-come-true.

East_Coast_GamerIf they took note from Conan Exiles then I believe it could be possible. How Conan does 2nd and multiple floors could prove useful.

DripyulaThere are in general some area's in the game which have disappointed me greatly with how narrow everything is compared to Fabane Woods.
Dunlay, Silverlight, the Swamp
... when I traversed all those area's I was very excited to check them out.
And while there are definitely beautiful spots, they really are just one or two.
And there is a lot of road-side area's which are intentionally closed off by the developers by terrain that cannot be leveled even with explosives.
Which disappointed me greatly. I get the overall idea that some castles should be hidden.
But lets face it - it's a videogame.
Sometimes realism must make place for practicality.

The strongly saturated area's are obviously the intended one's.
While the red area's would be funny & daring, easy to spot by players and maybe troublesome to hold on PvP servers.
A pity they are disregarded completely.
I hoped for more.
Oh well nothing is set in stone. -

dpx79Really need to increase the size of map too if possible, more so for the later areas. But yes more area or castle lvls is desperately needed for when they expand the crafting system.

ChronxThink about it for a sec... it would be a LOT more complicated than just "let me build a second floor".
There's a ton of questions that don't have obvious answers:
1) What if you built a 2 story castle, and then when it got raided all the supporting/load bearing walls on the first floor were destroyed? Does it hover in mid-air? Does it all crumble?
2) What does the camera do when traveling vertically to/from the next floor?
3) What kind of supporting structure is needed to build upwards?
4) What happens if you need to move a "load bearing" wall on the ground floor?
5) Can you build a 2nd floor that's larger than the underlying floor? (i.e. can you "build outward" from your ground floor)
etc. etc. etc. ...You get the picture -

HashbrownnsI really really think this game needs to have some sort of expansion in terms castle building. Given the Vampire nature of the game, I think being able to build downwards would help alot.
It's already been said, but it's getting really crowded on servers... especially when castles block newer players from moving freely around the world.
I think this should be addressed, besides going to servers who have server wipes enabled (some of us just don't want to start from the beginning). -

lyn1337If a basement floor makes it into the game, don't forget about the vampiric Super Fun Happy Slide!

VaenAs a developer-to-be myself, I have an idea of what sort of challenges the devs would be dealing with in order to implement multi-level castles without breaking so many other things first, but god damn would this be an amazing feature to add.

BomooEven a basement or one floor up, or both, would be welcome. Castle spots just aren't THAT big for most of them, such that it's a struggle trying to build out a fully featured one even without any cosmetic/RP rooms.

TimCellar for blood wine, and coffins, and observatory or throne room at the top to look at the stars?? I think yes! If it can be done without sacrificing gameplay, let's do it! We can also go up and down windmills, bell towers for our bell ringer servant to go up and ring or we can ring ourselves, etc. This would enhance the world of Valdoran in general to the next level. Best of luck guys.

komothen there would be almost no need to kill decaying castles anymore. unless you're trolling but that's a different subject.

GorbyrThis sounds absolutely awesome idea. I play solo at the moment, so I don't even have the crowding problem. Just sounds like aesthetically a fun thing to play around, make even more complicated castles and so forth!

MICHAEL DELEONARDI will tell you they should add castle verticality, and at least initially it should be basement / Dungeon floor, before they go up to a second floor stopping at three floors over all, two above one below. Building down (basement/ dungeon ) should take explosives. And I don't know what building up should take. With this on a map revamp, they should not only have more castle build areas, with all the regions in general being bigger, castle build areas in general need to be smaller; almost none should go over say 150 cells and with this I think we might have solved another problem as well, with the overuse of honey combing.

Jason Sheldon ArencibiaSimple, If there's a second floor, just don't show it like the roof is never show while we are inside!!
Update #13 has specifically addressed this stating, "It will be limited to one floor as the top-down perspective comes with challenges and limitations in building multiple floors."
Just don't show floors above, as if they are roofs! -

Erikato do it should be easy enough basically allow a special staircase when placed to create a floor above it just like 4 by 4 squares and by pressing f you teleport up to that floor, then to add more floor is up to your castle hearts spaces but of course you can't build on top, where your castle is not well maybe not by more than 1 square. this is one way or just allow stairs to be Anywhere in space to be able to place in the air behind an anther staircase and that well connect and so on

SimonI know this is probably unrealistic given that the whole game is strictly one floor, but very much +1 this. Alternatively it would already be great to build a fixed dungeon under the castle. Imho this is very iconic to vampire castles. A fixed dungeon would take the size of the ground floor and would be accessible by a single slope.

ShaunyExciting to see this is currently being experimented on in the latest dev blog.

tojoBasements/crypts would be dope. Mapping the underground on the current "three story" castle spots might be a mess. But definitely worth the dev time. Maybe if they made crypts or basement staircases a warp space. That allowed you to warp to set size crypt somewhere else in real space on the map, but from the player's perspective they would just be "underground" with black space outside their viewing area.

Feedback910220I really like the possibility "tojo" raised: a crypt/basement warp space. Would need to be able to move prisoners there, which isn't possible with active warps (using "F") but with passive warps like the cave I have heard it could be possible.

VivyennWelp. Basement could be "solved" with an entirely newly loaded "Area" underneath the Castle. ;-) Like the whole, remaing World clips out. However since the Gloomrot Update, more Floors above the ground-floor shouldn't be a Topic anymore as they are here now. ;-)

yesterday
AzraelYeah I had the same idea, right now I'm simply using the 2nd floor as the 1st floor and make it look like a foundation on the outside.
